Kings XI Punjab have not finished in the top four even once in the last four seasons of the Indian Premier League.

They managed to start off well last time but lost the mojo by the end, which saw them miss the top-four berth yet again.

Punjab have now hired the services of Mike Hesson and the Punjabis would hope that the Kiwi can team up with Ravichandran Ashwin to hand Punjab their first IPL title this year.

Here are the 4 players to watch out for:

Chris Gayle

The biggest hitter of the ball in the last few years, Chris Gayle is Mr. T20 Cricket. While his running between the wickets might be an issue, the West Indian covers up for it with his massive hits out of the park. The player was called up to play for West Indies after a long gap recently and made full use of it to show that he has not yet lost his mojo.

Gayle is among the top ten run-getters in the IPL, and given his history, it is likely that he can set the stage on fire again.

KL Rahul

The Indian cricketer made a return to the international team after his string of excellent performances in the league last year. Though the franchise struggled in the latter half of the IPL, Rahul shone bright and was the only shining star for his team. He was the side’s highest run-getter last year and the third highest in the league.

Rahul though, off late, has been in the news due to his off-field controversies and his inability to cement a spot in the Indian cricket team. However, he is still in the fray for a selection in the World Cup team and the player would hope to shine so that he can seal a berth.

Varun Charavarthy

The architect who took to cricket only recently is now a million-dollar baby, after Kings XI Punjab bought him for an astonishing sum of 8.4 crores INR.

The 27-year old first impressed in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, where he bowled as many as seven variations – the leg0break, the top-spinner, the off-break, the slider, carrom ball, flipper and the googly. If the bowler manages to keep his composure and play his natural game against the big-hitters, then it is safe to say that the player will be one of the players to watch out for in the league.

Last year, Harbhajan Singh had taken to Twitter to single out the uncapped player, and it is safe to say that many eyes will be on him.

Mujeeb ur Rahman

The second highest wicket-taker for Kings XI Punjab last season with 14 scalps, Mujeeb was used as an attacking option by skipper Ashwin in the powerplay overs. He bowled economically – giving away only 6.99 runs per over – and his ability to stall the run flow whenever he bowled was applause-worthy.

While the franchise already has three spinners in the side – Ashwin, Chakravarthy, and Murugan Ashwin, one can expect the Afghani to be a certain starter, considering his experience and his awareness of the conditions.
