5 top performing clubs of Europe in 2018

The year 2018 experienced some havoc scenes in football with teams like Liverpool, Juventus, PSG showing their might at all levels. The year has been one of the best with a mixture of uncertainties and fantastic results at all levels.


5 months of this current season are residing in history pages. Here we look at the 5 teams across the top 5 European leagues who absolutely blew their opponents away.

 

Liverpool (Premier League, England)

English giants, Liverpool, are in red-hot form this season. The highlight of the current season for the Reds is their defensive strength. Jurgen Klopp’s side are at the top of the league. They’ve conceded only eight goals in twenty games which is the best in the league along with Manchester City and have also kept twelve clean sheets. Twenty games into the season, Liverpool have won 17 games and drawn three while scoring 48 goals. Their unbeaten run is quite impressive because they’ve already played Spurs and Chelsea in away games and Manchester City and Arsenal at home. These matches were part of a tough run of fixtures for the Reds which included Champions League games against PSG and Napoli as well as a League Cup game against Chelsea. Considering the tough run they had, it’s amazing that the Reds have come unscathed in the league so far.

Barcelona (La Liga, Spain)

The Spanish giant is one of the top clubs of football, not only in Spain but also in Europe and it is famously known for trophies and goals. The Catalan club is now at the top of the Spanish La Liga and has scored 48 goals in 17 matches. On the other hand, they have conceded 19 goals. The tiki-taka specialist stands at the top position in Spain with 37 points this season. Their star man Lionel Messi has scored 15 goals already this season. Barcelona is currently 3 points ahead of Sevilla and 5 ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid. Can the reigning La Liga champions make it another season written in the history books? Of course, they can.

 

Juventus (Serie-A, Italy)

In Italy, Juventus is running the show all alone. Based on their current form another unbeaten season for the Old Lady cannot be ruled out. The club are top of the Italian top flight with 17 wins in 19 games having scored a league highest 38 goals while conceding only eleven. The Turin based club signed Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has 14 goals and four assists to his name already. Juventus started their season with a 3-2 win over Chievo in which they scored the winner in the third minute of second half’s added time. Since then, they’ve beaten Lazio, Napoli, Inter, Milan, and Roma during their 19 matches unbeaten run in Serie A.

 

Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga, Germany)

Under new manager Lucien Favre, Borussia Dortmund is tearing Bundesliga apart this season. 17 games into the season, Borussia Dortmund are top of the league with 13 wins and three draws and a solitary loss. They have scored three or more goals in random games, including seven against Nurnberg which took their tally for the season to 44. They are six points ahead of nearest rival Bayern Munich, whom they defeated 3-2. Dortmund’s brilliant run of form is undoubtedly a result of their attacking play. The club captain, Marco Reus, has scored 11 league goals, with Paco Alcacer, the highest scorer in German League (12 goals). Jadon Sancho, on the other hand, has assisted seven goals and his tally is the highest for any player in Europe’s Top 5 leagues.

 

PSG (Ligue 1, France)

Paris Saint-Germain are unbeaten having won 15 league games out 17 matches this season while scoring a flurry of goals in every game. They’ve scored 50 goals and conceded just ten, both of which are the best in the league. In addition, they already have a 13-point lead at the top of the table. The Paris based club’s incredible start to the season has been powered by their front three of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani. Mbappe currently leads the top scorers’ chart with 13 goals while Neymar has eleven goals, along with Cavani’s another 10 strikes.
