Aguero – Manchester City star signs a contract extension

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has decided to extend his current contract with the Premier League club by another year.

The Argentina international was contracted to the Premier League Champions till 2020 and he has now signed an extension that will keep him at the club until 2021.

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said: “We are delighted that Sergio is extending his stay at Manchester City. He has been so important to this Club since his arrival in 2011 and he remains at the forefront of what we are want to achieve in the coming years. We are fortunate to have had one of the best strikers in the world at our Club for so many years and I’m sure our supporters will be thrilled with this news.”

Aguero joined Manchester City in 2011 from Atletico Madrid, City’s all-time top scorer will have spent a whole decade with the club when his new deal expires.

With 204 goals in 299 appearances, Aguero is on the path of breaking more Manchester City and Premier League records. The 30-year-old striker has scored more goals than any other player in the club’s history. His goal in the 4-2 win away at Napoli in November 2017 which was his 178th for City, saw him overtake Eric Brook and become the Club’s greatest ever goalscorer. Brook’s record in the club had stood for a whopping 78 years.

Aguero holds the best minutes-to-goal ratio in Premier League history (based on 50 goals or more scored). He has scored 146 at an average of a goal every 108 minutes which is better than Thierry Henry’s record of 121.8 minutes per goal. Aguero also has 9 Premier League hat-tricks, just two behind Alan Shearer, the record holder. Shearer, the all-time leading Premier League scorer with 260 goals, called Aguero the best foreign player to ever play in the Premier League”.
