Rishab Pant and Ajinkya Rahane made sure India are on top after the end of Day 2 at Hyderabad.
West Indies gave a good fight in the 2nd test match, on day 1 it was a marvelous knock from Roston Chase and on day 2 Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers for the visiting team.
West Indies came out to bat with their overnight score.
With Roston Chase was on 98 runs and with him, Devendra Bhisoo was playing on 2 runs.
It was another good day for Umesh Yadav, he continued to trouble the Windies batsmen. He again struck for India in very first over. Bishoo did not trouble the scorers, he was out on his overnight score of 2.
In the next over, Roston Chase completed his fantastic hundred. His 4th test ton overall and first against India. This was really a special knock from Chase. West Indies reached the 300 run mark only because of Rostan Chase’s super knock.
But the Windies couldn’t add more runs under their belt. Umesh Yadav was on fire, he got rid of the centurion Chase and then he picked up Shannon Gabriel for a duck.
Umesh Yadav picked up 6 wickets in the innings and West Windies were all out for 311 runs in their 1st innings.
For West Indies, Roston Chase was the star with his knock of 106 runs. It was a gusty knock from the West Indian that propelled them to score 311 runs.
For India, Umesh Yadav took 6 wickets for 88 runs. Umesh Yadav picked up his 5 wicket haul after 2012, it took 68 innings for Umesh Yadav which is the most consecutive innings between the two 5 wickets hauls.
India started off well in their 1st innings, Prithvi Shaw was in full flow after his maiden test ton in Rajkot. He scored 11 runs from the first over.
But KL Rahul disappointed again, he failed to make a mark in this test match too.
His form will be a huge concern for Kohli ahead of Australia tour. KL Rahul scored just 4 runs. He was clean bowled by Jason Holder.
It was a good start provided by Shaw, he single-handedly gave the momentum to the Indian innings.
Shaw was eyeing his second test ton, he batted well till lunch, but the session after lunch didn’t go well as Shaw expected, he was dismissed for 70 runs. Warrican picked up the crucial wicket of Prithvi Shaw.
After this, Pujara and Kohli batted for some time but Pujara didn’t have anything much to offer. He was dismissed on 10 runs and the Windies picked up another crucial wicket.
West Indies kept their fighting spirit alive in the post-lunch session.
As Rahane and Kohli were marching on towards a big score Jason Holder came in and spoiled the party.
The West Indies skipper got the big fish, he trapped Kohli plumb in front. Kohli was out on the score of 45. India had lost a big wicket.
But Ajinkya Rahane and Rishab Pant slammed their half centuries and made sure that India won’t lose any more wickets after tea.
Rishab Pant’s aggression and Ajinkya Rahane’s class kept India in dominating position on day 2.
India was just trail by 3 runs, Rahane was not out on 75 runs and Pant is unbeaten 85 runs.
India scored 307 runs for the loss of 4 wickets.
It will be interesting to see weather Pant and Rahane score hundreds on day 3.
