Manchester City beat Everton 2-0 in their crucial double game week fixture to go on top of the Premier League table.
Manchester City, for the time being, are on top of the Premier League table and the title race has now reached a very exciting juncture. Though Liverpool has a game in hand over Manchester City, it’s safe to say that Jurgen Klopp’s men have gone from runaway title favourites to extremely worried Title challengers.

In no way should we take any credit away from Liverpool, the Reds have been exceptional this Season and really seem to have taken their game to the next level. They have only lost one game this Season and have not only been potent in front of goal but have also been extremely tight in defence, conceding the least amount of goals in the League-15. Incidentally, this very team struggled to keep oppositions from scoring goals last season and Jurgen Klopp should be mighty proud of his players.
Things haven’t gone Liverpool’s way in terms of injuries and the Reds have been less fortunate on that front when compared to their top 6 rivals. While they did add to their squad effectively in the summer with the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson joining the Club but when compared to Title rivals Manchester City they are far behind.
Now here’s why Manchester City would be fancying their chances:
Manchester City have a very deep squad with almost every backup player capable of being a potential match winner. The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane and Nicholas Otamendi haven’t played as many games as they would’ve liked but nobody can deny that the substitute players in City’s squad are of really high quality. A few injuries wouldn’t hurt their squad too much and Pep Guardiola will be banking on his players.
The Manchester City squad has the experience of winning a Premier League title, every player in their squad (barring some of the youth players) has lifted the trophy before and knows what it takes to win the league. Even summer signing Riyad Mahrez knows what it takes given that he was part of that historic 2015/16 Title winning team.
On the other hand, Liverpool are still in with a genuine chance of winning their first League Title in the Premier League era. Here’s why Liverpool can win the League despite so many things going against them.
Liverpool have only conceded 15 goals this Season and the Reds backline of Andrew Robertson, Virgil Van Dijk, Dejan Lovren, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been airtight. Goalkeeper Alisson Becker has proved his worth in gold and is one of the best if not the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this Season. Furthermore, midfielders James Milner and Fabinho have proven to be high utility filling in at Left and Right-back respectively whenever they are called upon.
Fluid and clinical front three
This is a no brainer, Liverpool’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane has been absolutely sensational. Salah is the top scorer in the League with 16 goals, Mane has scored 11 while Bobby Firmino has netted 9. If these three continue their form, Liverpool will surely go on to win the title.
