26-Year-old Columbian full-back Santiago Arias has signed for the Los Rojiblancos after a deal with Napoli fell through. Arias had a very good 2017/18 Season with PSV Eindhoven, scoring 4 goals and assisting six assists. Atletico Madrid announced the signing of the Right-Back moments after Sime Vrsajliko was loaned out to Inter Milan. Arias is expected to replace the Croatian World Cup Finalist with Atleti mainstay, Juanfran providing cover for him.

The Transfer fee hasn’t been revealed but according to Calciomercato the fee agreed with Napoli before the deal fell through was in the region of 11 Million Euros. The deal with Atletico and PSV for Arias is rumored to be in the same region. Vrsajliko has been loaned out to Inter Milan with an option to buy, the loan fee is a reported 6.5 Million Euros and the future Transfer fee has been set at 17.5 Million Euros.

The Columbian arrives in the Spanish capital after spending 5 Seasons in the Eredivisie winning three Dutch titles (2014-15, 2015-16 and 2017-18). Arias has made 173 appearances for PSV since arriving from Sporting Lisbon in 2013, he has scored 10 Goals and assisted 21 to help the Eindhoven Club Clinch 3 Eredivisie titles and 2 Johan Cruff Shields. 

Arias started all four of Columbia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup games including the Round of 16 matchups against England that proved to be Columbia’s last game. Atletico released two statements the first about Columbian’s Transfer – “Atletico Madrid and PSV Eindhoven have reached an agreement to transfer Santiago Arias to our club. The right-back becomes a new Atletico player after signing for the next five seasons,”

The Second statement confirmed Vrsajliko’s loan move to Inter – “Our club has reached a deal with Inter Milan, subject to the formalisation of documents and a medical, for the loan of Sime Vrsaljko,” the Club further added “After two seasons defending our club, in which he has demonstrated his talent and sacrifice, we want to wish him all the luck in his new era with Inter, who have an option to buy the player.”
