Arsenal vs Brentford, Kick-Off: 27th September 12:15 PM (IST)

Unai Emery‘s side host Championship side Brentford at the Emirates for the third round of the Carabao Cup on Thursday.

The Gunners have won all of their last five games in all competitions and it would be no surprise to see them overpower Brentford to reach the fourth round of the tournament. The Gunners enter at this stage because of their participation in the Europa League while Brentford reached the third round by beating Southend United and Cheltenham Town earlier.

Unai Emery will probably put an alternate squad on the field on Thursday. Promising youngster Emile Smith-Rowe might be making his first full debut while other backup players will be holding out for an opportunity to impress the new boss.

Brentford head coach Dean Smith has faced Premier League opposition 5 times in his managerial career and has a terrible record of losing all the 5 matches. He will be desperate to get his first win against a top-tier English club.

Team News

Arsenal: Unai Emery is without long-term absentees Koscielny, Maitland-Niles, and Jenkinson while Mkhitaryan, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and Mavropanos remain a doubt. Sead Kolasinac is back to full training.

Brentford: Dean Smith will have a fully fit squad barring Josh Clarke and Rico Henry. Defender Moses Odubajo is all set to make his first appearance of the season for the Bees.

Predicted Line-ups

Arsenal: Leno | Monreal, Holding, Pleguezuelo, Lichsteiner | Guendouzi, Elneny, Iwobi, Welbeck, Smith-Rowe | Nketiah

Brentford: Daniels | Field, Mepham, Jeanvier, Odujabo | Macleod, Yennaris, McEachran | Benrahma, Judge, Forss

Key Players

Arsenal: Alex Iwobi has been absolutely phenomenal for the Gunners this season scoring 1 goal and providing 2 assists in 3 appearances in all competitions. In a team full of fringe players, the Nigerian is bound to shine.

Brentford: Julian Jeanvier has scored 2 goals in the Carabao Cup already, both of them crucial in both the matches against Southend United & Cheltenham Town to lead his team to the third round.

Score Prediction

Arsenal 4 – 2 Brentford: The Gunners have a considerably superior squad compared to Brentford and will likely prove to be too strong for the Championship side.
