Arsenal VS Manchester City, Kick-Off: 12th August, 08:30 PM (IST)

The opening weekend of the Premier League has launched up a very appealing match as Arsenal take on Manchester City at the Emirates on Sunday. City open their title defence against Unai Emery‘s Arsenal – who are headed towards the latest season by a new manager for the first time in 22 years.

The post-Arsene Wenger period begins at the Emirates as Unai Emery takes charge of his first Premier League match and he could barely have been given a tougher start at home to the champions of the last season. Man City have not been very busy in the transfer market over the summer as they just have one major addition in the form of Riyad Mahrez, while the Gunners have completed 5 major signings.

Here is everything you need to learn about the encounter between the Gunners and the Premier League Champions this weekend.

Team News

Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey suffered a slight calf injury but has returned to training and could be fit but Sead Kolasinac and Laurent Koscielny are set to be long-term absentees. Nacho Monreal may not entirely be match fit so Maitland-Niles will possibly start as the left-back.

Manchester City: Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne are ready to play for City, despite just returning to training this week. Danilo has been sidelined as he picked up an injury during the World Cup with Brazil, while David Silva is also under the treatment and has been absent throughout City’s pre-season campaign.

Predicted Line-ups

Arsenal: Bernd Leno | Hector Bellerin, Sokratis Papastathopolous, Shkodran Mustafi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles | Lucas Torreira, Granit Xhaka, Aaron Ramsey | Mesut Ozil, Henrik Mkhitaryan, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.

Manchester City: Ederson Moraes | Kyle Walker, Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones, Benjamin Mendy | Fernandinho, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva | Leroy Sane, Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero.

Key Players

Arsenal: Mesut Ozil, who is in the heart of controversy after retiring from the German National team due to racism, looks set to be the key player for Arsenal for another season after encouraging performances in the pre-season friendlies.

Manchester CitySergio Aguero comes to the match after scoring a brace against Chelsea to lift the Community shield just last week. One of the best ever strikers in the Premier League coming in hot form is bad news for Arsenal.

Score Prediction

Arsenal 2 – 3 Manchester City: During their pre-season campaign, the Gunners have been phenomenal but City were outstanding last weekend against Chelsea in their Community Shield match showing that their title-winning spark isn’t over yet. Therefore, the match seems to be leaning in the favour of Manchester City but we can never really predict Premier League football.
