Bayern Munich ended their winning run as they succumbed to 1 – 1 draw against a solid and determined Augsburg team who were on a mission to end their winless run today. Arjen Robben’s third goal of the season looked enough to get the three points but a late and rare error from Manuel Neuer cos the German champions, four minutes from time. Augsburg were extremely resistant at the back as the evergreen winger, Robben was the only one able to breach their defensive structure. And Felix Götze pounced on the opportunity afforded to him when Neuer spilled a cross and allowed Jeffrey Gouweleeuw to tee up the brother of former Bayern midfielder Mario. Augsburg exploited gaps in the Bayern midfield early on as the German Champions played on the counter. Muller hit the post while Sanchez shot just wide. Just three minutes into the second half, Serge Gnabry chested down a long ball over the top and selflessly squared to Robben, who cut inside and fired through a crowded box into the top of the net.

Bayern got Frank Ribery on later, who thought he had scored until his goal was ruled offside. But that would not have mattered if Neuer had not spilled a corner that was converted by the Augsburg attackers. Niko Kovac will be hoping that his team gets back into their free-scoring best as soon as possible to get their campaign back on track. Thomas Muller is another man who needs to buck up if he wants to start games for Bayern Munich, with the resurgence of Sanchez and the inform James Rodriguez waiting to take his place. The German World cup winner cannot afford to take his place for granted anymore. Bayern will look to build on their record of five goals scored and none conceded away from home when they travel to Hertha Berlin on Friday, while Augsburg takes on Freiburg at home and should do so with a spring in their step.
