Javi Gracia | Premier League Manager of the Month - August

Watford head coach Javi Gracia has been named the Barclays’ Premier League Manager of the Month for August.

Javi Gracia won the esteemed award after the Hornets got off to a 100% winning start in the Premier League during the month of August. The 48-year-old guided Watford to 3 consecutive victories from the start of a Premier League season for the first time.

It is his first Barclays Manager of the Month award and only the 2nd one a Watford manager has received after Quique Sanchez Flores in December 2015.

The Spaniard praised his staff and the fans after receiving the coveted award and celebrated by assembling his staff and players for a photo at the training ground.

Watford began their campaign with a strong 2-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion before achieving a 3-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor, a notoriously difficult place to visit, and later completing their 100% win record with a pulsating 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

Those three wins meant that Watford began their 2018/19 Premier League campaign with the maximum points.

Javi Gracia spoke to Premier League Productions about winning the Barclays’ Premier League Manager of the Month award for the month of August.

He said: “I am very pleased. This award is a consequence of results in games we have played and that comes from the work of everyone here. When you start something you must think you can do it, but it is always more difficult in reality.”

Gracia further added: “We are a good family. It’s important not to look at the end of the road, but to enjoy the journey as well. I am very pleased. Don’t look only at the end of the road. Try to enjoy day by day. Try to enjoy the very good atmosphere, the workers who are helping us, the supporters in all the games are amazing. I think altogether we can achieve very good things.”

“My goals don’t change. Let’s try to win the next game. We have played four games so far but now they are in the past. When the players come back from international duty I am sure they will have a great focus, and its important for our work for the Manchester United game,” the Spaniard added.

The Watford manager faced competition from Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Chelsea’s Maurizio Sarri, and Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino, all of whom also boasted 100% win records as well.

Javi Gracia was ultimately selected by a combination of votes from a panel of experts and from the public, beating all his other competitors, and deservingly so.
