Jean Michael Seri claimed the prize for his sensational opening goal in the 4-2 home win over Burnley. The Ivory Coast international bent a long-range curling shot into the top corner past Joe Hart to open his Premier League tally, in a particularly fashionable way.
The 27-year-old Ivorian arrived at Fulham with a huge reputation and great promise and with this goal, Seri won over the fans instantly. The goal itself can be defined using a few words, touch, precision and power. A wonderful way to score the very first goal of a new club.
The Fulham midfielder beat off competition from 7 other top efforts to win the award for his thunderbolt against Burnley.
Carling August Goal of the Month shortlist:
- Roberto Pereyra | Watford 2-0 Brighton & Hove Albion (1st goal)
- Lucas Moura | Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Fulham
- Callum Wilson | West Ham United 1-2 Bournemouth
- Andre Gray | Burnley 1-3 Watford
- David Silva | Manchester City 6-1 Huddersfield
- Ryan Bertrand | Southampton 1-2 Leicester City
- Lucas Moura | Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham Hotspur (2nd goal)

The winner was decided from the combined votes of a panel of experts and from the public, who picked their favorite via the Carling Tap and Carling website.
Fulham legend Mark Schwarzer, who was on the judging panel, told premierleague.com: “It was the distance, the unexpected decision to shoot, but also the trajectory of the shot. The ball started off at an angle so far outside of the far post that the goalkeeper was always scrambling to make up ground. Add the curl, the angle of the ball and the sheer ferocity of the strike. The minute the ball left his boot there was only one place it was going to go.”
Jean Michael Seri has actually earned a hat-trick of Goal of the Month honors by claiming the official Fulham’s Goal of the Month along with BBC Match of the Day and finally the Premier League Goal of the Month in August.
The Fulham fans were clearly unanimous concerning who deserved the first Goal of the Month of the season, with 82.7% giving the Ivorian’s strike against Burnley their approval. Andre Schurrle’s clever strike against Burnley came 2nd with 5% of the votes while Aleksandar Mitrovic’s mighty header against Tottenham came third with 4.7%.
He's already claimed the @BBCMOTD & @premierleague accolades, but will Jean Michaёl Seri win the official #FFC Goal of the Month award too? This lovely hit from @Andre_Schuerrle is just one of the strikes he's up against…
