Germany and Bayern Munich Centre-Back, Jerome Boateng confirmed that he rejected a move to Manchester United during the Summer Transfer window. United Manager Jose Mourinho desperately wanted to sign a quality Centre-Back, and the likes of Toby Alderweirald, Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina popped up in reports as alleged targets. Another defender consistently linked to Old Trafford was Jerome Boateng, and the German revealed that he spoke to Mourinho on the phone and politely declined his offer.

Boateng disclosed that he was willing to listen to offers in the Summer after a below average Bundesliga Season and a dismal World Cup Campaign. Boateng told German Newspaper Bild, “I had inquiries from Paris-Saint Germain and Manchester United, and I considered them, Not because I wanted to leave Bayern Munich by all means. It was no escape, but rather the thrill of a new challenge. I feel completely contended at Bayern one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
There were some parts of the footballing community that believed Boateng’s time with the Bavarians was up considering he was inconsistent in Bayern’s 2017-19 Bundesliga winning Season. He was often replaced by Niklas Sule, who is younger and is considered to be Bayern’s Future. But according to reports from Multiple German Media organizations in August, Boateng was expected to stay put.
Boateng also went on to reveal that it would be hard to leave Bayern and in the ven that he does everything needs to be “in place”, “I called Jose Mourinho, I told him that his interest was an honor for me and thanked him for trying so hard for me. I explained to Jose that it’s difficult to leave Bayern, and if I do, everything has to be in place to top this club.”
United are in a turbulent state as of now with Mourinho allegedly falling out of favor with the Board and the team producing inconsistent performances. So it was no surprise when Boateng showed no interest to return to Manchester (played for Manchester City in the 2010-11 Season). Boateng seems content at Munich, and it doesn’t look like he’s leaving anytime soon.
