Kepa Arrizabalaga to sign for Chelsea | Blues trigger £71.6 Million Record clause

In what has been a frantic 24 hours for Chelsea that started off with Thibaut Courtois expressing his desire to leave Chelsea and 12 Hours later the Blues have agreed to pay Athletic Bilbao £71.6 Million for Kepa Arrizabalaga. This potential transfer will eclipse the current world record £66.8 Million Liverpool paid for Alisson Becker.

Kepa was reportedly close to joining Real Madrid for a meager €20 Million fee in January, but the deal was blocked by the Real Madrid Coach Zinedine Zidane. Athletic Bilbao were quick to respond by committing their prized shot-stopper to a new long-term contract, which increased his buyout clause to €80 Million.

The 23-Year-old flew down to Madrid to discuss the move with his representatives and will be traveling to London in the afternoon to finalize the Deal. According to British Journalist, Dominic Fifield Kepa’s £71.6 Million release clause was triggered at 9:22 AM GMT.

Chelsea will have to be very Proactive considering there is just a little over 24 hours left before the British Transfer Window closes. The move to bring Kepa to Stamford Bridge will pave the way for Thibaut Courtois to join Real Madrid for a fee that is reportedly in between  €35-€40 Million with Mateo Kovacic joining the Blues on a Season long Loan.

The Young Goalkeeper will arrive at Stamford Bridge with the tag of the most expensive Goalkeeper in World Football. Not exactly a situation you would want to put a 23-Year-Old youngster to be in. The Onus would be on the Senior players at the Club to make the Youngster feel at home and the Likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Cesc Fabregas could play key roles in helping their Compatriot settle down.

Maurizio Sarri didn’t comment about Thibaut Courtois’ exit or Kepa’s potential signing but when asked about what he thinks of the player, Sarri praised the Spaniard “I saw him one year ago. My first impression was that he is a very good goalkeeper, very young, but very, very good.”
