Manchester United 3 - 2 Newcastle United | Premier League Highlights

A Memorable night in Manchester

Manchester United came back from 2 – 0 down at Half-time to beat Newcastle United with a last-minute Alexis Sanchez header that marked a memorable night for the Club. Despite the win, Jose Mourinho’s position as United Manager is under scrutiny and The Mirror has even gone on to report that Jose will be given the sack by next week despite the result at Newcastle. Well, if there’s one appropriate way to go out, it’s this one. With a Bang! United’s 3 – 2 Victory has given some hope to the fans of probably a late turnaround and was a much better performance than the 0-0 Draw against Valencia.

Newcastle United will be disappointed with the result, especially after playing so well in the first half, but that’s Football, isn’t it? We got to experience one of the best comebacks in recent years, but it had to be at Newcastle United’s expense.

The two Halves of the Match represented two eras of Manchester United; the First-half had all the attributes of the Post-Alex Ferguson era while the Second-Half represented everything Sir Alex brought to the Premier League. In the First-Half, United’s defence looked panicky, disorganized and just abysmal in general. Newcastle Forward, Ayoze Perez found Kenedy with an effective Through ball, the Brazilian tucked the ball away with ease and it looked like Ashley Young was least bothered to close him down. Just Three Minutes later Young was ineffective in blocking out Jonjo Shelvey while Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling gave Yoshinori Muto enough space and time to score on the turn and just like that, Newcastle United were 2 – 0 up in the first ten minutes. Like everything we have seen in the Post Alex Ferguson era, the first half saw nonsensical defending and zero intent or courage from the forwards who seemed least interested in trying to get a comeback. Marcus Rashford bottled a golden opportunity when he headed wide, and as usual, David De Gea had to bail United out again, and the Spanish Super Keeper prevented Newcastle from being three or maybe even four Goals up.

The second-half took me down Memory lane. To see that never say die attitude back at Manchester United with players moving forward, striving to attack and giving their all for the badge was trademark Alex Ferguson stuff. To top it all, the Atmosphere at Old Trafford was electric, something many of us haven’t witnessed in years. The Comeback was set rolling by Juan Mata. Mata hit a sweet free-kick in the 70th minute that was followed by a deafening celebration at Old Trafford. Six Minutes later Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial combined with a slick one-two before Martial buried the ball in the bottom-left corner. Old Trafford believed now, the Fans were chanting Mourinho’s name and were visibly distraught with the Board and Ed Woodward, with a bunch of them even holding out signs against the Club’s CEO. Alexis Sanchez came on as a Substitute in the 67th Minute for Marcus Rashford, now Sanchez has been the poster boy of the negativity at Manchester United, he’s been touted as a waste of money, his attitude has been questioned on multiple occasions, and his performances have been distraught, to say the least. But in that moment, when Ashley young whipped that cross in, and it skimmed pass Martial’s head, and Sanchez headed it into the back post, nothing mattered anymore. It seemed like in that one moment, everything was forgotten, Sanchez was an Old Trafford hero, and normalcy was restored. The best part yet. Sanchez won it for United in Fergie Time!
