Bundesliga 2018/19 Highlights: Lewandowski finds the net twice as Bayern Munich beat Wolfsburg 1 – 3 to get their first win in 5 games.

Bayern Munich’s star Robert Lewandowski was the hero yet again as he so often is for the German Champions as they beat Wolfsburg 3 – 1 in a tricky away fixture. This meant this was Munich’s first win in the last five games in all competitions. Lewandowski scored twice and set up a third goal as the champions earned a hard fought win on Saturday. The Polish superstar opened the scoring at the half hour mark and netted his second four minutes after the game restarted to give Munich a much needed boost after head coach Niko Kovac and his men were under pressure with below average start to the season. This was a day after various members of the club’s board criticized the media and backed their manager and players to go on and retain the Bundesliga title and said they believe that they will come back strong.

The victory was a truly hard fought one and it is safe to say that they fully deserved the three points that they got. The hosts almost staged a fighting comeback when Robben was sent off for a second yellow in the second half. This was the first time the Dutchman was sent off in over 7 years and it lead to the hosts starting a comeback with a goal. They went on to put immense pressure and mounted numerous attacks looking for an equalizer. However, it was James Rodriguez that stunned the home crowd by curling a shot beautifully into the corner following a Lewandowski pass.

The win means that Bayern move to a provisional second place on the table, four points behind rivals Dortmund. This victory will not only boost the confidence of the team but will also go a long way in boosting the confidence of their coach Kovac in his first year at Bayern as a manager. He and his team are set out to proving the critics wrong and given the individuals present in this Bayern team, the task at hand seems far from impossible. They now face AEK Athens in Greece in their UEFA Champions League encounter and they will look to carry on this winning momentum and get some more wins in their kitty. Bayern on their day are one of the best teams in Europe and showering criticism on them based on their performances in the first few games of the season is extremely cruel on the critic’s behalf because there is no doubt that as the season goes on, they can only get better.
