5 Caribbeans who could be up for a bidding war in the upcoming IPL auctions

The conflict with the national cricket board and the increasing skill-set of the West Indian players have ensured that the players from the Caribbean are a force to reckon with in the T20 format.

After having set the recently-concluded T10 league on fire, most IPL franchises would be eager to get their hands on the young crop of talented players from the country, who have pledged to play the game with flair and flamboyance.

Here are the Caribbean 5 players who will be on every side’s roster in the upcoming IPL auctions.

Nicholas Pooran

In the T10 league, the 23-year-old emerged as the highest run-scorer, smashing 324 runs in 9 innings at a staggering strike-rate of 245.45. Pooran was in fine form in the Caribbean Premier League as well earlier this year, hitting 267 runs for his side Barbados Tridents in 10 innings at a strike-rate of 144.32. His good showing in the T20 league ensured that he was in the flight to India for the T20I series, and he impressed in the last game at Chennai.

Looking at ease against the spinners, Pooran romped his way to 53 runs that came in 25 deliveries. His knock had four boundaries and four sixes. With good skills against the slower bowlers, Pooran could be a crucial player if the tournament is held either in India or UAE.

Shimron Hetmyer

The West Indian batter came to the limelight after his consistent showings in the ODI series against India earlier this year. He ended the five-match series with 259 runs, which included a hundred and a 94, at an average of 51.80 and a strike-rate of 140.

Earlier in the year, Hetmyer had turned heads with a good display in the Caribbean Premier League. He had made 440 runs in 12 innings at an average of 40 and a strike-rate of 148.15. The 21-year-old has the potential to smash bowlers all across the park, and teams who are looking for an explosive top-order player could well bid for him.

Fabian Allen

The 23-year-old played only 3 Caribbean Premier League games as he was a late inductee into the tournament. However, he left his mark almost immediately, scoring 119 runs with a strike-rate of 188. Playing for the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Allen showed his maturity when he walked out to bat after his side had lost 5 early wickets against the Barbados Tridents. He first steadied the ship with singles and twos and then went on a rampage, smashing 64 in 34 balls.

Allen has only played 8 T20 games thus far, but like most West Indian players, he has tremendous skills and could be more than a handful for sides like Rajasthan and Kings XI Punjab, who are struggling to find a big hitter down the order.

Sherfane Rutherford

Rutherford is yet another cricketer who would interest many sides who are looking for a smasher at no. 6 or 7. The 20-year-old immediately caught attention in the Caribbean Premier League after he made 45 runs off only 13 balls whilst playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors this season.

Teams like Royal Challengers Bangalore or Delhi Capitals, who are top-heavy teams, could want Rutherford in the mix.

Oshane Thomas

The fast bowler was yet another cricketer who impressed in the series against India, beating players for pace constantly. He got the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan three times combined in the ODI and T20I series, each time troubling the left-hander with speed.

He bowls fast, constantly hits the 145kmph mark and he could be a real threat if the IPL is held in South Africa next year. He had a good Caribbean Premier League season too, and though he tends to be expensive at times, he is a regular wicket-taker and sides like Kolkata Knight Riders, who do not have an experienced pace bowler in the side, could go all out for him.
