Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez scored one and created the other in a 2-0 shock win against Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid were handed their first loss in the 2018/19 Season and the loss puts a massive dent in their La Liga Title ambitions. Atletico already dropped points in a 1-1 Draw against Valencia on Opening day and after this loss, the Los Rojiblancos have dropped to 10th on the Points table. While Title Rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid are expectedly positioned and First and Second place respectively.

Uruguayan striker, Maxi Gomez scored the opener Just one minute after the resumption of the Second-half when Atleti Captain Diego Godin slipped inside the box handing possession to Gomez who slotted past Jan Oblak. He then assisted the second finding Iago Aspas with an excellent cross from the right in the 52nd minute. Atletico failed to recover from a poor first half in which they lacked a intent and drive up front.
To add to that uncharacteristic performance, Atleti had to spend the last 20 minutes with 10 men as Defender Stefan Savic. Stefan Savic made a harsh tackle on Celta’s Cisto that sent him into the book in the 51st Minute and Twenty Minutes later he handled the ball to concede a free-kick and the referee rightfully handed him a second yellow, sending the Montenegrin to the dressing room for an early shower.
Diego Costa’s Slump
The Spaniard was impressive in the World Cup and was phenomenal in the 4-2 Super Cup win against Rivals Real Madrid. But in the La Liga Diego Costa is now goalless in 12 games and, to add to that awful run, his intent less display was of grave concern. Costa offered little in the way of either presence or goal threat, too often leaving Antoine Griezmann to do all the heavy lifting.
