Chelsea edged past Inter on penalties after Roberto Gagliardini (48′) canceled out Pedro’s goal (8′) in the Allianz Arena in Nice on Saturday. Maurizio Sarri’s brand new Chelsea started the game with intensity and venom. It was Alvaro Morata’s play that put the blues in front. Morata was skillful inside the box and dribbled past Inter Centre-Back, Stefan De Vrij to take a shot that deflected off Keeper Handonovic and found Birthday boy Pedro who put the blues in front. Gagliardini equalized for Inter three minutes after the resumption as Chelsea seemed to have lost their initial intensity. It was Bakayoko’s inaccurate pass that led to Mauro Icardi’s Interception, the Argentine forward set it up for Gagliardini who slotted the ball past Willy Caballero. The game eventually went to Penalties.

Alvaro Morata’s impact

The Spaniard has come under a lot of criticism in recent times. Morata had a below average Season that saw him lose out on a spot in the Spanish National team and even lost his place in the Chelsea team to Olivier Giroud. Morata was on song against Inter, his Industrious play virtually created Pedro’s goal. The blues looked dominant when Morata was playing. Definitely the Man of the Match.

If Morata can consistently put in these sort of performances he very well could be leading Chelsea’s attack this Season.

Does Morata make our Chelsea Predicted XI

Late Drama

Both teams could’ve won the game in Normal time in the dying moments. New signing Jorginho, who hasn’t misplaced a single pass in his first two games for his new Club looked too perfectly curl the Ball into the top corner in the 81st Minute but was denied by Samir Handanovic. For Inter it was Lautaro Martínez’s shot that was wonderfully saved by Compatriot Willy Caballero.

Chelsea successfully converted all five of their spot kicks while Inter’s Milan Skriniar was the only player denied. The Blues wrapped up a 5-4 win on Penalties.
