IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings VS Rajasthan Royals

CSK vs RR – Pre-Showdown!

Chennai Super Kings will aim to start off with a win against Rajasthan Royals at their new home ground – The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune on Friday, 20th April 2018. The team was forced to move out of their original home venue in Chennai due to political unrest over the Cauvery water sharing issue.

Both teams, returning from their two year ban, will face each other for the first time in the 2018 Indian Premier League. Both had faced defeat in their previous matches, will be determined to fight hard till the very end. Rajasthan, with two wins and two defeats, are placed fifth, while CSK under MS Dhoni’s captaincy is placed fourth after two wins and one defeat. The MCA stadium is Dhoni’s “happy hunting ground”. The Chennai Super Kings captain has an average of a whopping 52.71 with the bat in T20s here. Dhoni has scored 369 runs at this venue in just 14 innings. However, with it being a tough week for the Super Kings, it would be hard to imagine the ground being kind to them. Not to mention Dhoni’s back injury that he received while going up against KXIP. In addition to this, CSK will definitely be feeling the loss of Raina’s hard-hitting abilities. It will be interesting to see how they fare in this match.

CSK is already facing a set back by missing Kedar Jadhav & Raina, not only their hitting power but also their bowling abilities. CSK might place David Willey in place of Imran Tahir & might get in Karn Sharma to replace Tahir’s leg-spin abilities. Today we might expect Dwayne Bravo to bat ahead of Ravindra Jadeja. CSK top priority is setting a good platform & they have a solid middle order in Dhoni, Bravo, Billings who can win the matches from tough situations as we’ve witnessed in this season of IPL so far.

Another interesting thing to see is who wins the toss and what will they opt to do first, since chasing is seemingly a better option as witnessed in this IPL season, like KKR’s amazing comeback in their second game. It would be a wise choice to go with what works.

On the opposing team of RR, One possible change can be D’archy Short getting replaced by Henry Klassen who’s a hard-hitting SA Wicket Keeper-Batsman & can give stability to the struggling middle order of Rajasthan. They can move Rahul Tripati to the opening slot along with Rahane who’s having his dream IPL season as both Captain & Batsman. Rahul Tripati was a big success for Raising Pune Super Giants as an opening batsman & RR might give Rahul Tripati a chance at opening the innings. One more probable change can be Jofra Archer replacing Ben Laughlin if Jofra is a 100% match fit & it would be a big boost for a Rajasthan’s struggling bowling attack since Jofra is a death over specialist who has made a mark in global T20 events.

A matter of worry for Rajasthan Royals would be the big expectation from the two Englishmen, Stokes & Butler, who have not been playing up to their standards so far in this IPL match. Not to mention the fans looking forward to their favorite players like Dhoni, Watson, Butler & stokes. This could be quite a big pressure on these players.

We got two top-notch teams up against each other, and we can expect no less than a crackling match tonight! Here’s to hoping that the game lives up to the fans’ expectation!
