Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Cameroonian forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting from Championship side Stoke City.

A statement from the club’s official website read: “Paris Saint-Germain is pleased to announce the arrival in its squad of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Arrived from the English club Stoke City, the German-Cameroonian striker has signed a two-year contract with the club of the capital, until June 30, 2020.”

Choupo-Moting started his professional career at Hamburg SV, a major club from his hometown. He then joined FSV Mainz 05, where he worked under current PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel between 2011 and 2014. The forward later joined Schalke 04 and played there from 2014 to 2017 before eventually joining English side Stoke City.

The 29-year-old is a football veteran with 204 Bundesliga, 30 Premier League and 27 European competition appearances, including 11 in the UEFA Champions League.

President of PSG, Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “We all welcome Eric Maxim, whose signing closes our transfer window. He is a player with long experience, especially in Germany and in the jersey of the Cameroon team, two countries that are solid references in international football. His profile complements our workforce in view of the deadlines that await us this season. Our players and the entire club will be able to give him the best welcome, as well as our supporters. “

After playing in all of the German youth categories, from u-18 to u-21, the striker decided to become a Cameroon international, competing in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups as well as the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon. Now, Choupo-Moting has earned 45 caps and scored 13 goals for the Cameroon national team.

Speaking about his move, Choupo-Moting said: “I feel extremely honored to join today in this European top club that is Paris Saint-Germain. I want to thank the leaders and the coach for the trust they put in me by recruiting me. I will strive to do my best on the field, day after day, to express my appreciation for my new club. Coming to France, this great football country, marks a fantastic step in my career. I will have extraordinary players as teammates every day and I am already looking forward to discover the atmosphere of the Parc des Princes! “
