Denmark grab their first 3 points in the UEFA Nations League B after a 2-0 victory over Wales.

Wales suffered a poor defeat against Denmark yesterday. Christian Eriksen’s brace guaranteed a comfortable win against Wales in Denmark’s UEFA Nations League opener.

Denmark were back to their full squad after their senior players boycotted Wednesday’s 3-0 friendly disappointment against Slovakia over a commercial rights argument.

The Danes started the match sluggishly with the Welsh proving to be the better team in the initial periods. Ryan Giggs‘ men seemed to bring their previous game’s momentum with them as they started on the front foot. Gareth Bale unleashed a shot just wide of the post in the 29th minute. However, their fresh start was undone as they went behind in the 32nd minute. Lasse Schone found Henrik Dalsgaard with a long pass and he then assisted Christian Eriksen, whose low driven strike went in off the post.

Matters got worse for Wales when the referee pointed to spot after he concluded Viktor Fischer‘s shot to have hit Ethan Ampadu on the arm. Eriksen then scored his second from the spot with a confidently struck penalty past Hennessey in the 63rd minute.

Wales still put up a fight for the rest of the match, but Denmark’s dynamic display was eventually enough to give them a triumphant start to their UEFA Nations League campaign.

For a budding Wales side, this was a match that snapped the Welsh back to reality after their 4-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland just 3 days prior, in what was Ryan Giggs’ first competitive match in charge. While the Irish side gave a little fight, Denmark was a considerably more challenging test for Wales. It was a harsh lesson for them but one which was essential for the further development of the side.

The result leaves both the teams level on 3 points while the Republic of Ireland stay at the bottom with 0 points.

Ireland face Denmark first on 14th October and then Wales on 17th October in their next UEFA Nations League B fixtures.
