Everton reach an agreement to sign the Columbian defender Yerry Mina

Yerry Mina’s heroics in the World Cup was sure shot to get the Columbian a good price in the market and that’s exactly what FC Barcelona did.

With Malcom and Arthur coming into Barcelona during the transfer window, they had to sell players who were already holding the Non-EU player’s spot at the club.

The two players that FC Barcelona could have sold to make the spot is the Columbian and the Brazilian defender Marlon Santos. However, there was no real concrete interest amongst the club for the Brazilian compared to the Columbian defender.

The Toffees signed the Brazilian striker Bernard earlier in the transfer window with the window already closed for the English clubs.

Barcelona’s official statement:

“FC Barcelona and Everton FC have reached an agreement over the transfer of the player Yerry Mina.” read the statement on FC Barcelona’s official website.

The club added that “The English club will pay FC Barcelona 30.25 million euros plus 1.5 million euros in variables. The Club reserves the right to buy back the player.”

Barcelona’s clause means that they could buy the Columbian back from Everton for a sum either during his stay at Goodison Park or beyond it.

Further, the club wished the Columbian all the very best for his future, alongside thanking him for his one season at Camp Nou.

“FC Barcelona would like to publicly express their thanks to Yerry Mina for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.” read a statement.

Barcelona brought the Columbian into the set-up in January when they paid around 12 million euros to the Brazilian club Palmeiras. Since making his debut for Barcelona, the defender has assisted once in La Liga. Barcelona, however, rarely used the Columbian in the league.

With the addition of the French defender Clement Lenglet, it was unlikely that Yerry Mina would have got much playing time. Alongside Thomas Vermaelen and Samuel Umtiti, Barcelona now have three left-footed defenders with only Pique and Marlon Santos the right-footers.
