Since making his debut for FC Barcelona two seasons ago, Portuguese Andre Gomes has endured a torrid time at Camp Nou. Gomes’ playing style and Barcelona’s philosophy has not gone down well with each other.
While Gomes thrived at fellow Spanish club Valencia CF. However, with Barcelona drilling their players with Tiki-Taka style of football, Gomes could not quite subscribe to the playing style. Under Valverde too, the Portuguese midfielder could not get the hang of the game.
However, English club Everton have given the midfielder another chance at reviving his career from the dead woods. In a 2 million dollar loan deal, the midfielder will move to the Goodison Park and Toffees further will provide the midfielder his wages as well for the season.

Gomes made name for himself first at Benfica, where he won the domestic treble in 2014. Following that the midfielder made a loan switch to Valencia before making it official in 2015. Further, at Valencia, the midfielder played attractive football garnering the interest of Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona, however, ensured that they pried the midfielder under the nose of their rivals and bought Gomes in a 42 million pounds move. Toffees this season have had a good partnership with FC Barcelona, with three players arriving at Goodison Park from the Spanish club.
The first player to arrive from Spain was the French left-back Lucas Digne who moved before the Columbian defender Yerry Mina. Mina’s arrival at Goodison Park was alongside Andre Gomes, which makes it three players from FC Barcelona this season.
“The English club will pay FC Barcelona 2.25 million euros for the season long loan and will also pay the player’s wages.” read a statement on FC Barcelona’s official website. With the departure of Gomes, Barcelona’s midfield has less competition and could thrive this season under Valverde.
