FIFA World Cup 2018: France’s road to the Final

 France’s performance in the World Cup was one of the only things fans and Pundits got spot-on. The French haven’t played the most attractive style of Football but have been very effective. Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have been instrumental for Les Blues and what makes this team even more exciting is the fact that they have a young squad and can go on to dominate World Football for years to come.

Group Stage

France was drawn alongside Denmark, Peru and Australia in Group C.

France’s opener saw them edge past Australia thanks to technological advancement. VAR made its debut in the World Cup and Goal Line technology played a key role in turning the result in France’s favour.

Perhaps the most monotonous game we’ve seen in this World Cup, France had sealed a spot in the Round of 16 and Denmark confirmed their qualification with a draw.

France vs Argentina, 30th June 2018, France win 4-3 ( 13′ Griezmann,  41′ Di Maria, 48′ Mercado, 57′ Pavard, 64′ 68′ Mbappe, 90+3′ Aguero  ) 

A game that will go down in the History books for not only being one of the most interesting knockout games ever but also maybe Leo Messi’s last World Cup game. 7 goals, high-class entertainment.

Quarter-Finals

France vs Uruguay, 6th July 2018, France win 2-0 ( 40′ Varane, 61′ Griezmann)

France was solid against Uruguay, Varane’s first-half header and Griezmann’s shot which bounced off Fernando Muslera’s hands and into the goal sealed France’s Semi-Final berth.

Semi-Finals

France vs Belgium, 10th July 2018, France win 1-0 ( 51′ Umtiti )

France was defensively superior, were better in Midfield and were excellent off the ball. In the end, Umtiti’s 51st-minute header was enough to take Deschamps’ France to Moscow with a chance to win the coveted trophy.
