Germany and Brazil are the two teams’ favorites to lift the World Cup trophy this year. But both the teams started the finals on a bad note. Brazil was held to 1-1 draw against Switzerland. On the other side, Die Mannschaft commenced the world cup even in the worst way, losing it to Mexico1-0.
Both teams seem struggling even in the second match. Brazil faced Costa Rica in their second group match and somehow Selecao managed to win the match 2-0, it was the time in which the goals came is a serious concern.
Philippe Coutinho breaks the deadlock after a poorly controlled ball from Jesus Gabriel fell into his path in the 91st minute. Neymar Jr. ensures the victory in the 97th minute, tapping the ball into the nets after a fine low cross from Douglas Costa.
The surgeon’s surgery
Germany story was somewhat different from the Brazilians and they were trailing to Sweden in the first half by a goal. Marco Reus, who missed his last world cup due to an injury, scored the equalizer for the defending champions. On one side, where Germany is known for their ruthless attack, Sweden defense was a hard nut to crack. Sweden did a great job in keeping the gaps close and providing an unbreakable shield ahead of Sweden’s goalkeeper, Robin Olsen. But it was Tony Kroos “The Surgeon” brilliant free kick that pulled out Germany’s hopes from the brink in the 95th minute.
World Cup Odds!
It looks like after those late injury-time winners both countries will make a certain place in the knockouts stage. These matches can be taken by the teams as the wake-up call and they should be fully prepared for any opponent. However might be the performance of these two teams in their group matches, the odds of winning the world cup are still in their grasp. And if one of these teams win the World Cup, these injury time goals will be remembered for centuries.
