On a day that shook World Football, it was good to see some normalcy restored when Brazil took on Serbia. The Five-time World Champions comfortably brushed aside the Serbs with Paulinho and Thiago Silva finding the back of the net in a 2-0 win. The victory propelled Brazil to the top of the Group and the Selecao will go on to face Mexico in the Round of 16. Serbia, on the other hand, will be on the first flight back home.

It was 2 contrasting styles of play with Brazil constantly on the attack and Serbia dropping deep and hoping t neutralize their opponents. Philippe Coutinho’s perfectly waited pass split the Serbian defence and found Paulinho who nonchalantly tucked the ball over Stojkovic to open the scoring in the 36th minute. Serbia played with more intent in the Second-Half but Brazil’s ability to break on the counter, with pace constantly threatened the Serbs. Thiago Silva comfortably headed home from Neymar’s corner in the 68th minute to wrap up the scoring for Brazil.
What makes this Brazilian team special?
Brazil has always been a very good attacking team, even under former Managers Dunga and Scholari there was never a lack of goals. So what does Tite bring to this team? Defensive organization. Tite has given this Brazil team defensive shape. Miranda and Thiago Silva have been revolutionary for Brazil, the Centre-Back pairing are 33 but have proven yet again that age is just a number. To add to their defensive organization they have Casemiro deployed at CDM who has been absolutely exceptional for Club and Country.
What’s next for Brazil?
Brazil takes on Mexico in the Round of 16. After beating Germany and South Korea in the Group Stage, Mexico has punched above their weight and are no pushovers. Brazil will have to be wary of the Mexicans, the likes of Lozano and Chicarito have proved themselves at the highest level and could very well knock the Brazilians out of the 2018 World Cup.
