The hosts were officially the lowest-ranked team to ever host the World Cup. Their chances were written off before the tournament began as they were placed in what looked like an impossible group with Uruguay’s Luis Suarez and Egypt’s Mo Salah. But they took the pressure and used it to their benefit as seen in their two victories.
Their next game will be against their fellow Group A last-16 qualifier, Uruguay, who, like Russia, have won their first two games but not in a prolific manner as the Russians. Suarez and co. will be hoping for a strong victory before entering the knockout stage.
Anything can happen at the World Cup, and this World Cup has been a testament to that statement. With giants such as Germany and Argentina, failing in their attempts against the teams like Mexico, Iceland, and Croatia. The World Cup proves to be as exciting as ever.
Uruguay: With no fresh injury concerns, Uruguay will be all ready to face the leaders of Group A. The match is bound to be a spectacle as both of the teams have full 6 points each and already qualified for the knockout stage.
Russia: After the loss of Alan Dzagoev in their opening match, Russia has had a fully fit squad and one that is performing way above expectations. They will look to carry their devastating form against South American giants Uruguay.
Uruguay: Luis Suarez scored in his last match against Saudi and will be hoping for more against group leaders, Russia. The Barcelona striker is a key player for the South Americans and they exceedingly depend on his experience.
Russia: Aleksandr Golovin has been in sensational form in his first two matches in the World Cup. The 22-year old playmaker will be crucial for his side, especially in the knockout stage.
