New Signing Thomas Lemar was on song for Atletico Madrid in a much-needed La Liga win over Getafe to take the Los Rojiblancos to 5th on the points table. Atleti have brought their La Liga campaign back on track after a hard-fought victory against 10-man Getafe. Simeone’s side have gotten a consecutive positive result after a good win against Monaco mid-week in the Champions League. Atletico are making their way up the table but cannot afford to slack off now in the title race considering League leaders Barcelona are already 7 points clear of them.

Thomas Lemar was supposed to be the face of an improved Transfer policy by Atletico Madrid, in an attempt to prove that they can sign big players and the Frenchman proved that he’s World-class against Getafe. Lemar more or less broke the deadlock when he took a shot from 30 yards out to only find the underside of the bar before bouncing off of Keeper David Soria to go down as an own goal. The Frenchman eventually did score his first Atletico Madrid goal in the 60th Minute after a round of beautiful quick passing, Lemar found himself staring at a relatively open goal from a tight angle, but the angle seemed no issue for the Frenchman as he poked home to double the lead.
As Atletico went 2-0 up, Getafe brought on winger Ivan Alejo in a desperate attempt to try to salvage something out of the game. But to Getafe’s misfortune, Alejo flew in with a challenge and stepped on Atleti midfielder Saul to get a straight Red Card, Getafe had now gone down to 10-men and subsequently killed all chances of a comeback to the game.
Costa’s unfortunate drought…
Diego Costa scored a good goal midweek against Monaco and was very good in the UEFA Super Cup as well, but the Spaniard has gone a mammoth 14 La Liga games without finding the back of the net. Atletico Madrid did win the game but Costa’s form should now be a worry for Simeone.
