IPL season is drawing to a close and the India team gets together again to get ready for international cricket – Test, T20I and ODI (One Day International). The respective squads were confirmed yesterday by India’s selectors taking the all-around performances of domestic cricket players into consideration.
As was announced at the beginning of this year, India will be host to Afghanistan’s first Test match since earning their Test status along with Ireland in June last year. The decision collaborated between the BCCI and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), will take place from June 14 to 18. Bengaluru is said to be the preferred venue taking the weather as a basis.
Ajinkya Rahane will be captaining Team India for the Test matches while Virat Kohli will play for Surrey in England county cricket to prep for the T20I and ODI matches. Kohli is to be replaced by right-handed batsmen Karun Nair.
Rahane, however, didn’t make the cut for India’s T20I and ODI series.
Kohli will come back as captain for the two-match T20I series against Ireland as well as the three-match series against England. The squads for these matches have included the regulars like MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma and many more.
The T20I series against Ireland is to take place on June 27th and June 29th at The Village in Dublin while the series against England will happen in Manchester on July 3rd, Cardiff on July 6th and Bristol on July 8th.
The three-match ODI series against England will also be captained by Kohli with a few adjustments from the T20I squad – Ambati Rayudu will be making a comeback to the team to replace injured Kedar Jadhav while KL Rahul takes Manish Pandey’s place. 32-year-old Rayudu played an ODI for Team India last in 2016 and has earned his place back due to his consistent performance in Chennai Super Kings this season.
The ODI series will start on July 12th at Nottingham, second on July 14th in London and the final on July 17th in Leeds.
Siddarth Kaul will also be making his debut in the Indian team due to his performance in the Sunrisers’ Hyderabad in this year’s IPL. The 27-year-old has taken 13 wickets so far this season.
India will reunite as one again to cheer Team India as they go abroad to bring glory to the nation.
