Indian cricket team clinched a close victory against Australia in the second ODI of the ongoing five-match series. 

The closely fought contest at VCA Stadium, Nagpur saw the men in blue defending 251 and giving the host a memorable win. India thus registered the 500th win in One Day Internationals and now stand only behind Australia in the list of most victories in the limited format.

India Cricket Team Behind Australia

Australians are currently leading the charts with 558 victories. Indian cricket team played their first ODI in 1974 and till now they have played a total of 963 matches. 500 of these matches were victories, 414 were losses while nine matches were tied. India played the most against Sri Lanka and they have a winning percentage of 61.56. Whereas the winning percentage against Australia is the worst at 38.83%, India won their 500th match against the Aussies.

With India at the second spot, Pakistan is standing at the third spot. The full list of total wins by eight test playing nations are shown below,

West Indies, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and England do not have huge gaps in between. If South Africa can manage to whitewash the Sri Lankans in their ongoing bilateral series, they easily reduce the gap. On the other hand, if England manages to perform well in the ICC World Cup England will also have a chance to come close to the South Africans.

India’s 500th ODI Win

Indian cricket team, batting first set a competitive target of 250. Credit goes to the 40th century of the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli (116) and a decent 46 by the new member, Vijay Shankar. Kohli and Shankar put up a partnership of 81 for the fourth wicket. This was 65th overall hundred by Kohli. In the process, he also became the fastest to 9000 runs as captain in international cricket. Chasing 251, the yellow army kept losing wickets at regular intervals. None of their batsmen could actually make any difference except Marcus Stoinis (2) and the chase was ended at 242 in 49.3 overs. Indian cricket team are leading the series 2-0 currently and will like to seal the series win on March 8 in Ranchi.
