3 high profile Indian players who might go unsold in IPL auction 2019

The IPL Auction for the 2019 season is scheduled on December 18 in Jaipur. This IPL season might just have a lot of unforeseen surprises in store for us. The franchises have already released, retained and transferred players ahead of the IPL auction.

Some very popular Indian players have been released by their franchises. And there is a high probability that few of them might not find a buyer in the IPL auction for next year’s tournament. This leaves us in the curiosity about the fate of some big Indian names who might go unsold in the IPL auction 2019.

Let us have a look at those possible players:

Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir Yuvraj Singh Mitchell Starc
Former KKR and DD captain, Gautam Gambhir.

The two-time IPL winning captain with the Kolkata Knight Riders, Gautam Gambhir was sold for a low amount of Rs 2.80 Crore last year. In addition to his lack-luster batting performance in the past few seasons, under him, the DD lost five of their first six matches. He stepped down as captain and put Shreyas Iyer in charge. Little did he know that he would be dropped from the playing XI as well. Consequently, he was released by the Delhi Daredevils this year. He is likely to go unsold in the IPL auction for next year.

The full list of released players by the Delhi Daredevils: Gautam Gambhir, Jason Roy, Gurkeerat Mann, Glenn Maxwell, Mohammad Shami, Dan Christian, Vijay Shankar, Abhishek Sharma, Shahbaz Nadeem, Sayan Ghosh, Liam Plunkett, Junior Dala, Naman Ojha

Yuvraj Singh

The Kings XI Punjab released 12 players that included big names such as Australia’s Aaron Finch and Yuvraj Singh. The latter had a bland run in the previous IPL season. Also, his batting performance was below-par last season and was a shadow of himself. Sold at his base price of Rs 2 Crore in the 2018 season, the Kings XI Punjab was the only franchise that bid for him. His poor form throughout the tournament continued and was consequently dropped. In the eight matches that he played for Punjab last year, Yuvraj could only manage to score 65 runs with a strike-rate of 89.04. Perhaps, Yuvraj Singh would most likely be ignored by the franchises in the IPL auction for 2019 season.

The full list of released players by the Kings XI Punjab: Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, Aaron Finch, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Sran, Yuvraj Singh, Ben Dwarshuis, Manoj Tiwary, Akshdeep Nath, Pardeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar, Manzoor Dar

Recently in the news due to his controversial personal life more than his Cricket, Delhi Daredevils’s Mohammad Shami was released by the franchise ahead of the auctions. Despite his good form in Tests and ODIs, the Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has almost mostly been in a disappointing form in the T20 format. Nonetheless, Delhi Daredevil stunned everyone by buying him for 3 crores last season. With over an economy rate of 10, he could claim only three wickets for DD. Furthermore, his overall IPL figures are quite dismal and it’s highly unlikely for any franchise to bid for him in the IPL auction.
