Inter Milan Qualify For The UEFA Lazio

Inter Milan secured the final spot in the Champions League for the first time since 2012 after making an emphatic comeback against Lazio beating the home team 3-2 in the Serie A today.

Despite having an overall unsteady season, Inter showed heart in their final match putting in a brilliant performance and keeping their ‘Never say die’ attitude as they snatched the fourth place and a Champions League spot from Lazio in an extremely competitive ‘Winner takes all’ match.

Lazio just needed a single point from the game in order to qualify for the Champions League and was leading 2-1 at half-time after an Adam Marusic shot got deflected in by Ivan Perisic, Danilo D’Ambrosio’s equalizer seemed futile after Felipe Anderson rolled the ball in just before the break. Stefan de Vrij, a player who has reportedly agreed to join Inter next season, gifted a penalty which Mauro Icardi happily tucked in. Senad Lulic was sent off for a second booking and the game seemed to have drastically shifted to the visitor’s favor when Matias Vecino somehow connected to a Marcelo Brozovic corner despite being marked by two Lazio players headed home a powerful header past Thomas Strakosha completing a dramatic comeback at the expense of Simone Inzaghi’s side. The match ended 3-2 and Inter were finally victorious. The three points moved Luciano Spalletti‘s side above Lazio into the fourth place and in the Champions league after seven years despite the two sides finishing level on 72 points because of a better head-to-head record which is used in the Serie A.I

Inter will have a lot of players to thank for this season’s performance, one of them being Mauro Icardi, the club and league top scorer with 29 goals. Another star performer this season was a trusty left wing player Ivan Perisic who scored 11 goals and assisted another nine of them. Inter also had a relatively successful transfer business with players like Milan Skriniar, Joao Cancelo claiming their respective first-team spots and Matias Vecino being the difference in several matches including the final Serie A match. Luciano Spalletti has taken Inter Milan to the Champions League after seven whole years and the fans have definitely witnessed one of their most emotional seasons yet.
