It is no hidden news that Sunrisers Hyderabad has raced to the top and made a place for themselves. Kane Williamson, their skipper has been in the news and in people’s and fan’s minds because of his great performance this IPL. For being the captain and leading the team towards success, we need to appreciate his effort. Thus, let’s have a glance at his history of cricket and how he has time and again proven his capability.
Williamson started playing cricket at the age of 14 and by the age of 16, he was a participant of first-class cricket. By the time he reached 17, he led the under-19 New Zealand Cricket team into the World Cup in 2008. He went on to score his maiden ODI century in 2010 in a match against Bangladesh, thus establishing himself as the youngest in New Zealand’s test cricket history. Williamson scored an exceptional 161 runs in a match in 2014 against West Indies. Currently, he stands after Corey Anderson and Jesse Ryder, strongly holding the third position as a New Zealander with the highest strike rate. Stopping at nothing, he pushed the New Zealand team to score their majestic 99th ODI Century against Pakistan in 2015. He was also the fastest batsmen in 2015 to be able to have scored 3000 runs in just 78 innings. Going on and making records, this cricket sensation scored 1172 runs in test matches and broke the record for the most number of test run scores. Leaving a trail of fire behind, Williamson made an awe-inspiring 2692 runs highest cricket score for the year of 2015. Clearly, 2015 was his year and made him a sensation and pushed his name up the list of the popular cricket players.
Considering his exceptional performance, with a total of 544 runs, he is a contender for the orange cap. He has unquestionably earned his way up here and has a good average of 60 runs this time and the highest score of 84. However, he is competing against Virat Kohli at the moment who has pushed through after yesterday’s match and come up to the third position. Rishabh Pant undoubtedly taking the lead has set a record and hopefully, Kane Williamson will be able to get as close as possible to it. We have seen him perform throughout the season. The only catch that we can all now think of is Williamson against Spinners. He is not always able to tackle them and tends to score lesser, which is slightly unnerving for fans. Hence, we do hope that he can successfully push past this obstacle and become the 2015 Williamson we are all very impressed by and look up to.
The coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Tom Moody is all praises for the captain and clearly believes in him.
“To be honest it has not been a surprise to us. Kane (Williamson) has been a good T20 player for a number of years. It is really an opportunity for people watching to see the versatility in Kane Williamson”
Let us hope that the captain tries his best to level his way up!
