Both teams in the clash have been successful so far in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League and are placed at the top of the points table.
The clash of the titans of the marquee T20 league will be witnessed at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai tonight as the top-placed Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders lock horns in their first battle of the 2019 IPL season. Out of their five games, the two teams have lost only once. More so for the KKR tea, who faced a defeat against the Delhi Capitals in a Super-over clash. Meanwhile, the defending Champions were only bettered by the other three-time Indian Premier Champions, the Mumbai Indians.

But overall the two franchises have kept form in the 12th edition of the IPL right from the start. For the Kolkata-based franchise, the Jamaican all-rounder Andre Russell has done wonders right from the start of the season. The middle-order star has set a trend of coming down in the middle at crucial points of the game and changing the situation in favor of the Knight Riders invariably. It’s fair to say that the Dinesh Karthik-led KKR side has most of its wins credited to the power-hitter Dre Russ.
Overall in the Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni’s Super Kings have a great record at home. In a total of 106 matches that they have played at their home ground in Chennai, they have merged victorious 77 times and lost on only 33 instances. All in all, CSK have dominated over the Knight Riders many a times and the record shows a Win/Loss ratio of 12/8 and at CSK home the Win/Loss record is 6/2 in favor of the hosts.

So as the two top-placed teams battle it out tonight, let’s have a look at the player battles which are set to be the highlights of the clash.
Shane Watson vs Sunil Narine
As we know the pitch in Chennai is usually a plus for the spinners and as equipped as KKR is with its, the home team should be wary of it. All-rounder Sunil Narine’s bowling hasn’t worked wonders for the visiting team so far in the IPL. We are all aware of his batting skills though. However, going by past records Narine will fancy his chances against Shane Watson against whom he has dominated by claiming his wicket three times in 26-ball overall clash between them in the IPL. Moreover, the Aussie all-rounder has managed a deficient strike-rate of 96.15 against Narine. With Watson opening batting for Chennai and Narine often bowling in the power play, it would be quite an interesting Player battle to watch.
Andre Russell vs Imran Tahir
The most destructive man in the KKR batting line-up is undeniably Andre Russell and his power-hitting has changed the course of many matches into KKR’s favor. From destroying the bowling attack of the opposition, regardless of the bowling styles, to single-handedly taking the Kolkata team to victory, Russell has done it all. His gigantic strike rate in this edition of the IPL is unparalleled.
On the other hand, CSK have the South African leggie Imran Tahir in their arsenal. Speaking of star players in the IPL we can never miss out on this gem of a spinner. He has been exceptional for the CSK side and is an absolute match-winner and who better than him to remove the mighty Andre Russell. Believe it or not, Russell has quite a mediocre record against the Proteas spinner. Although the sample space is just 20 deliveries between them, the leggie has dismissed Russel thrice whereas the Windies power-hitter has managed only a meager strike rate of 65 against the South African. It will be one of the star-struck player battles of the match on Tuesday.
MS Dhoni vs Kuldeep Yadav
MS Dhoni is like a mentor the contemporary spinners of the Indian Cricket team. Both Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been guided by MS Dhoni, the former captain of the Indian team, to dismiss several batsmen in international matches. Both the mentor and the student know each other very well to exploit the weaknesses of one another. This key player battle between the teacher and the disciple will see Dhoni tackling against the KKR chinaman Kuldeep Yadav, who has been dismissed the CSK captain twice in the IPL before.
