KXIP vs RR
April 16, 8.00PM IST
Punjab Cricket Association, Mohali
Punjab are coming into this game after two losses, while RR won an important game against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. However, KXIP have a good record at home this IPL 2019, having won three of their four matches, but they have plenty of issues to sort out.
Their batting looks too dependent on Chris Gayle and KL Rahul, while their bowling has not been able to pack a punch either. RR, on the other hand, have a more settled batting unit, with bowlers like Kulkarni, Archer, and Gopal leading the way.
The track at Mohali plays similarly to how the pitch at Jaipur is, which should give RR the confidence to go for their two points. As far as the playing 11 goes, Ben Stokes, if fit, is likely to be slotted in, while Hardus Viljoen might come in for the home team.
KXIP Predicted 11
Lokesh Rahul, Chris Gayle, Mayank Agarwal, Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Sam Curran, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin (c), Andrew Tye/Hardus Viljoen, Mohammed Shami, Murugan Ashwin
RR Predicted 11
Ajinkya Rahane (c), Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson (wk), Steven Smith, Rahul Tripathi, Liam Livingstone/Ben Stokes, Shreyas Gopal, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jofra Archer, Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni
As Buttler has not been keeping for the last few games, Dream11 has enlisted him as a batter, which allows me to pick both Buttler and KL Rahul in my side. The other wicket-keeping option – Sanju Samson – is not as aggressive as Rahul, who will be high on confidence after being selected for the Indian team.
Chris Gayle is a must-have, after his unbeaten 99 in the last game against RCB, while Mayank Agarwal is a good player as he has been pitching in with important runs in the middle overs. If there is an early loss of a wicket, the Indian has the skills to anchor the innings and get a big score under his belt. Steven Smith is slowly but surely finding his lost momentum, and the World Cup selection will further give him the much-needed boost. Mandeep Singh, at 8 credits, helps me fit in the more expensive players that I want in my Dream11 team.
I have only two all-rounders – Ashwin and Sam Curran and have decided to leave out Stokes, considering he will be fit for the match. Stokes has not had the best of tournaments, and has been expensive, and has not earned many points either. Curran too has not fared as well after his burst of 4 wickets, but he is a good utility player, coming in only for 8.5 credits. Ashwin and Shami for Punjab had held the reigns in the bowling department, while Gopal has been the standout for RR. Kulkarni rounds up my team.
Captain and Vice-captain: Buttler, Rahul
