IPL 2018 | Match 42 | DD vs SRH: Shikhar Dhawan and Kane Williamson led the Sunrisers Hyderabad to an integral victory against the Delhi Daredevils at Feroz Shah Kotla last night. They are now the first team to secure a position for the playoffs.
SRH was always known for its bowling extravaganza, however, yesterday they proved they are a true champion team.
DD won the toss and opted to bat as they felt confident they could take place a high score. However, the vital powerplay saw the crucial wickets of openers Prithvi Shaw and Jason Roy be taken one after the other. Shakib Al Hasan took them both out unsuspecting and confused. Rishabh Pant released his frustration against Siddharth Kaul and Rashid Khan with a hattrick of boundaries in each of their overs. Both Shreyas Iyer and Harshal Patel were run out as they partnered with Pant, must have made the man wary. Pant scored 128 runs in 63 balls, which is the highest score by an Indian batsman in a single IPL match. He reached his half-century mark in the fifteen over and got to a century in another two overs. The last over saw a hattrick of sixes from him, ending the game with a great score of 187 for five.
SRH, expected to falter with such a target, effortlessly chased it down with 11 balls to spare. The joint score of 178 runs between Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan was enough to crush the opposition as they stood invincible against the bowling prowess of DD. After the opener, Alex Hales was dismissed and Williamson came in to replace him, it was all smooth sailing. They packed the powerplay with 51 runs and hit boundaries at regular intervals. Dhawan reached his fifty in the twelfth over while Williamson also reached his half-century mark after a few overs.
SRH will be playing next against a team that stands at their level – Chennai Super Kings on May 13th at Pune while DD will gear up for to clash with the Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 12th at Delhi.
