Delhi Daredevils remains out of the running with eight points but with their win in their last match against Chennai Super Kings, they will look to end their placing in the tournament with a victory.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians is placed at fifth with the highest net run rate among the remaining tied IPL teams. A win will grant them the fourth playoff spot, as they end Rajasthan Royals’ run in the tournament.
Delhi Daredevils have not had a great outing this season with only four wins but they proved in their last match that they should not be written off. If they can’t make the playoffs, they will try to make the headlines with spectacular fielding as they defended their score against the death-over specialists. A win today will allow them to leave the tournament with their heads held high and an evil laugh as they turn MI’s luck around.
MI is four points behind KKR who has secured the third playoff spot, two points behind Rajasthan Royals and at par with KXIP. But their run rate makes them the more favorable contender to make the playoffs. They started off the season horrendously being one of the favorites to be eliminated first but made a complete 180 degree as they made a very filmy comeback. Their winning streak was disturbed by their loss against the RR last Sunday but they came back with a win over Kings XI Punjab. They will enter their final home game with everything on the line, unlike their opponents.
Feroz Shah Kotla is batsmen-friendly as we all know and the weather forecast predicts a high temperature of 42 degrees. It will not be an easy game for the players to survive through. However, it is said that the field will be well-suited to spinners.
Delhi Daredevils will be expected to go with the same line-up again in order to secure a victory or they might allow the newer players to make their IPL debuts tonight.
Mumbai Indians may bring in an extra spinner. Akila Dhananjaya may be brought in to replace Ben Cutting.
The two teams have clashed twenty-one times previously in the cash-rich league with Mumbai Indians leading by one win. Feroz Shah Kotla switches the odds, however, and has proven to be more favorable to the Delhi Daredevils. DD has won four of the last five matches they have faced against MI at Delhi with the only win secured by MI by 146 runs – the biggest victory margin by runs in IPL history so this can go either way.
Mumbai Indians clearly has the upper hand in the bowling department with the best bowling average (23.95) and the highest number of wickets taken (88) while Delhi Daredevils lies on the opposite side of the spectrum with the lowest bowling average (31.77) and the lowest number of wickets (70). However, DD has the best scoring rate of all the teams in the tournament and the best scoring rate during the death overs.
This will be a nail-biting match to watch as we will see if Mumbai Indians will steal the last spot or if the Delhi Daredevils will take up the role of an anti-hero as they push them out of the running.
