The Chennai Super Kings are arguably the most successful IPL franchise and undoubtedly the most consistent side in the tournament
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings side are defending Champions and predictably released only 3 players and had to buy just 2 domestic players.

Squad:MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Deepak Chahar, KM Asif, Karn Sharma, Dhruv Shorey, Faf du Plessis, M Vijay, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Billings, Mitchell Santner, David Willey, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Watson, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir, Kedar Jadhav, Ambati Rayudu, Harbhajan Singh, N Jagadeesan, Shardul Thakur, Monu Kumar, Chaitanya Bishnoi, Mohit Sharma* and Rituraj Gaikwad*
They are a quality that were criticized for the lack of an Indian experienced seamer and now that they have that in Mohit Sharma it’s hard to nitpick and find weaknesses. Still, let’s give it a shot shall we?
Vast Experience- CSK’s biggest strength is their repertoire of experienced players who have performed at the highest level for a pretty long time and at least taking last year into consideration, it doesn’t look like they’re gonna falter any time soon. The likes of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu and even Dwayne Bravo, really came into their own last year. CSK fans and the management will be hoping that their experienced campaigners can pull off a second consecutive title and given their squad strength, they very well may just pull it off.
Bowling Depth- The CSK spin department has always looked very good and have spinners who can play in any conditions, with Indian Spinners, Ravindra Jadeja, Karn Sharma and Harbhajan Singh all capable of spinning a web, they are accompanied by foreign imports Imran Tahir and Mitchell Santner. The CSK pace attack was heavily scrutinized after the auction last year for looking very weak on paper but Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Lungi Ngidi, Dwayne Bravo and Shane Watson did more than a decent job. Now with Mohit Sharma rejoining CSK’s Bowling ranks, they are looking seriously dangerous.
Old age Fatigue- CSK’s biggest strength is their experience but a majority of these experienced players don’t play all three forms of cricket internationally and aren’t used to the gruesome continuity in fixtures which can lead to injuries. Last year we saw that with MS Dhoni, despite his insane fitness levels was facing severe back pain due to fatigue. The likes of Bravo, Watson, and Dhoni are retired from most formats and are on the wrong side of Thirty now. An injury or a series of them could just derail CSK’s Season.
Probable Playing XI: Ambati Rayudu, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Sam Billings, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, Mohit Sharma, Deepak Chahar.
