Australian pace bowler Kane Richardson has been ruled out of the squad from their on-going series against India due to injury. Andrew Tye has been named his replacement in the squad.

Richardson got a side injury while batting in the nets prior to the first T20I against India. Australian team’s physiotherapist David Beakley, however, explained Richardson’s injury and said that he wouldn’t be a part of the squad for the rest of the series.

“Kane reported some left side pain at training prior to the opening T20I in Vizag. Unfortunately, he has not recovered well enough in order to play a further part in the tour,” Beakley said. “Kane will return home to continue his rehabilitation, and we monitor his progress over the coming weeks,” he further added.

Though Richardson came to practice in nets before the second and final T20I game, struggled to bowl with the injury and after a few deliveries, he left the nets.

After a long gap, Richardson made his return in the international circuit. He has last played in T20I and ODI against England in June 2018. He was the highest wicket-taker in the recently concluded Big Bash League ahead of the India tour.

However, his injury made the way for Andrew Tye in the squad; who had a good season in the Big Bash League. He took 17 wickets in 14 games for the Perth Scorchers. He was a part of the T20I squad when India toured Australia last year. His last played ODI against England in June 2018 and T20I against India in November 2018.

Meanwhile, Australia won the two-match T20I series by 2-0 and won their first T20I series against India. Both the team will lock horns for the five-match One Day International (ODI) matches; which is scheduled to start from March 2 in Hyderabad.

After the T20I series win, it will be interesting to see whether Australia could keep their winning momentum on in the ODI series or India bounce back!
