Dutch Midfielder, Kevin Strootman has Joined Marseille from Roma for a €25m (£22.7m) Transfer fee. Strootman ended a 5-year stint with Roma after arriving at the Italian Capital in 2013 for PSV Eindhoven. Strootman made 137 appearances scoring 13 Goals for the Giallorossi and was a crucial part of the team especially in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaign that saw them finish 2nd in the Serie A and reach the Semi-Final stage of the Champions League Respectively.

Strootman thanked Roma on Twitter “5 years ago I came to Rome, and I immediately fell in love with this beautiful city and club. Thank you wonderful Roma, my teammates, the medical staff, the managers, board, and staff: you’ve been like family to me. Good luck to you all.”

After the arrival of Javier Pastore and Steve Nzonzi, Strootman was deemed surplus to requirements and is incidentally the second Midfielder and third high profile player to leave the Club after Goalkeeper Alisson and Midfielder Radja Nainggolan. The Roman Club thanked the Netherlands International in a statement “The club would like to thank Kevin for his service over the years and wishes him all the best for the future,”

Marseille announced Strootman’s signing in a unique way. The Club released a Fortnite-themed video where we can see Strootman AKA “The Flying Dutchman” paraglide in, pick up a cache of kit and then takes out the enemy with a perfectly placed shot.

The Dutch Defensive Midfielder missed nearly two whole Seasons after Joining the Club in 2013 due to a string of Cruciate Ligament Injuries and had to wait till his third Season at the Club to make his Mark. Marseille Coach, Rudi Garcia has managed Strootman while he was at Roma and the French Club has shown faith in the Dutchman by paying a decent fee and handing him a 5-Year-Contract. It would be interesting to see how he fares in the Ligue 1.
