KKR are among the original eight teams that took part in the IPL. Since then have a huge role in maintaining the fanbase of the tournament. Whether it is due to their owner, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, or because of their exceptional team lineup, the Knight Riders always bring out the unexpected when they come onto the field. 


The bowlers played a huge role in the success of the team. The Knight Riders have not always had the most conventional choices for their bowlers, yet, more often than not, these choices have paid off tremendously. Here’s taking a look at the top wicket-takers of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sunil Narine – 112 Wickets

The legendary wicket taker from West Indies was signed on by KKR in 2012, after a memorable bidding war between the team and Mumbai Indians. The bowler never failed to astound fans with his mind-boggling bowling and numbers In 98 matches, Narine has picked up 112 wickets for his team at an average of 6.5.

In the beginning, Narine was merely good with the ball, not allowing batsmen to read his deliveries. However, in 7 seasons, he has evolved to become a fiery batsman too, along with bringing a new definition to the term ‘Mystery Bowler.’

Piyush Chawla- 56 Wickets

Chawla was yet another risky choice by KKR. The former Kings XI Punjab player was picked up by KKR in 2014 and scored the winning runs against his former team in the IPL finals that season. Chawla has been discarded by India, but has turned out to be a legend in the IPL, and how! In 11 seasons, he has snatched 140 wickets, at an economy rate of 7.71. Chawla is expected to repeat his magic with KKR in this edition of the IPL as well.

Umesh Yadav- 48 Wickets

Yadav was bought by KKR in 2014 and played for them in the four successive seasons. In 2018, however, he was picked up by Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, in this short span of time with KKR, he scalped 48 wickets at an amazing average of 20.1, which shows off his amazing bowling abilities. The pacer from Vidarbha had best figures of 4/32 when playing for KKR.

Andre Russell- 43 Wickets

Bought by the team for just INR 60 lakhs in 2014, the Jamaican has proved himself worthy of every penny. His amazing performances have ensured that he has made a place among the highest paid overseas players of IPL history. A terrific all-rounder, he has shone in the slog overs as well as he can take wickets at regular intervals. In 5 years of playing with KKR, he has picked up 43 wickets, at an average of 23.76.


Shakib Al Hasan- 43 Wickets

Shakib Al Hasan had become synonymous with Kolkata Knight Riders, and not just due to his Bengali roots. The bowler from Bangladesh was signed on by the team in 2011 and had proven himself to be a capable and trustworthy performer. Unfortunately, in the 2018 IPL, he was snatched up by Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

However, the contributions he has made to the team are tremendous. In 7 seasons and 43 matches, he picked up 43 wickets. Averaging at 25.6, he was one of the trump cards of then-skipper Gautam Gambhir, and never failed to surprise the opposition.
