India Thrash West Indies by 8 wickets and go 1-0 up in the 5 matches ODI series.
India had a comprehensive win over West Indies. Virat and his men start the series on a winning note.
Even though the hosts had a tough day with the ball but, tons from Skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma allowed India to chase the target of 323 runs easily.
India won the toss and opted to bowl first, Shami and Chahal gave India some early breakthroughs but Kieran Powell and Shinron Hetmyer played a gusty knock which helped West Indies to stay in the hunt.
Powell and Hetmyer took great control of the innings after the fall of debutant Hemraj and Marlon Samuels.
The rebuilding process was done nicely by the two set batsmen, Kieran Powell got to his fifty,
unfortunately, he couldn’t convert the start. Powell was out to Khaleel Ahmed after scoring 51 runs.
But Hetmyer carried his innings along and tried to hold the one end. He didn’t get the more support as he required from Jason Holder and Rovman Powell.
Despite that Shimron Hetmyer was unstoppable, he got to his 6th ODI hundred. But he couldn’t go all the way, his brilliant knock of 106 runs was ended by Ravindra Jadeja.
West Indies needed some lusty blows towards the end of their innings, it was provided by Devendra Bishoo and Kemar Roach.
Bishoo and Roach added 44 runs for the ninth wicket and gave West Indies an excellent finish.
West Indies scored 322 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. Devendra Bishoo was unbeaten on 22 runs and Kemar Roach was not out on 26 runs, which he scored from just 22 balls.
India missed Bhuvi and Bumrah towards in the end overs. Mohd Shami was expensive in his 10 overs.
He picked up 2 wickets but he gave away 81 runs after his 10 overs.
With Shami, Chahal picked up 3 wickets and Ravindra Jadeja took 2 wickets to his name.
The Indian innings didn’t get a good start.
Chasing 323 runs to win, Shikhar Dhawan was clean bowled by Oshane Thomas in the first over. Dhawan managed to score only 4 runs.
Then came the partnership that blew the Windies away. Skipper Virat Kohli and Vice Captain Rohit Sharma took the innings under their control.
Rohit and Kohli shared a match-winning partnership of 246 runs which turned the game on its head.
This partnership made sure that India is on the winning track.
Virat Kohli slammed his 36th One Day International ton and Rohit Sharma too got up to his 20th ODI century.
They both took India closer to the West Indies total.
The Windies needed something to break this huge partnership and finally, Virat Kohli was stumped by Shai Hope. Kohli’s magnificent knock was ended on 140 runs.
But Rohit Sharma continued his class at the other end. He scored his 6th 150 in ODI cricket and now the Hit Man has the most 150 plus scores in ODIs.
Rohit Sharma and Ambati Rayudu finished off the game with no further hiccups.
Rayudu gave a finishing kick to the innings, he was not out on 22 runs with Rohit Sharma played another sensational knock.
Hit Man was unbeaten on 152 runs, which he scored from just 117 deliveries, this innings included 15 fours and 8 mighty sixes.
India chased down the target in just 42.1 overs.
Oshane Thomas and, Devendra Bishoo picked up 1 wicket each to their name.
India won the match by 8 wickets and take the lead 1-0 in the 5 ODI match series.
Virat Kohli was named the man of the match for his captain’s knock.
The 2nd ODI will be played on 24th October 2018 at Visakhapatnam.
