IPL 2018: Kolkata Knight Riders VS Kings XI Punjab

Knights vs Kings: After a mega-storm hitting Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders are gearing up to tackle another storm in the name of Chris Gayle, as they take on Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, 21st April 2018 at 4 PM IST. Gayle has been a fantastic asset to the kings and the team has been in its top form under the captaincy of Ashwin against CSK and SRH. But KKR has also proved to be a formidable opponent with their two consecutive wins on a trot against DD and RR. The match would definitely demonstrate an interesting battle since both teams are strong on paper especially with assets like Gyale, Russel, Narine, Lynn, and Finch in their squads.

KKR’s main strength is in spin bowling and they probably have the best spinning-bowling-combination in the tournament. Narine’s top-notch form has proven to be a big boost for KKR. However, they might be provoked to move Shubman Gill to the top considering he has been wasted in the number 7 slot.

KXIP would be expected to begin with a quick-fire partnership between KL Rahul and Gayle at the top order. Only possible changes would be Tiwary replacing Yuvraj Singh who has been out of form recently. The King’s bowling has been on the mark with spinners and pacers doing their part as expected. The KXIP batsmen have been at the best of their form during this season of IPL match, scoring at 11 runs per over. It should make for a gripping battle between the King’s top order and crafty KKR spinners as the home team looks for early breakthroughs.

After the mega players’ auction in late January, It would seem that KKr has built its team with an eye on the future. The two-time champions, have done exceedingly well to gather six points from five matches and seem to have all bases covered. They are counting on Sunil Narine to provide a quick start along with Chris Lynn, while Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana, and skipper Karthik are building on that for Andre Russell to finish with a bang.

It is expected to rain in the after in Kolkata and the chances of thunderstorms during the match is expected, but hopefully, it does not affect the match. It is also expected to be humid and players will have tough conditions to battle along with their opponents. We would expect the rain to stay away and let us enjoy the fireworks from the likes of Gayle and Russel.

KKR Tweeted:

It’s a clash between two teams in top-notch form and we can rest assured that it’ll be a battle worth watching.
