IPL 2018 | Match 40 | RR vs KXIP: Rajasthan Royals achieved the near-impossible by defeating the more probable winners of last night’s match, the Kings XI Punjab. However, KL Rahul’s performance did not go amiss in the criticism faced by the team for its performance.

KL Rahul stood undefeated to display his best IPL performance to date with 95 runs in 20 overs. KXIP started fielding and did a good job at it, restricting RR to 158 for eight. Four of those eight wickets were taken by Andrew Tye, three of which were in the last over. The combined individual effort of these two, however, was not enough for to win the game for the Ashwin-led side as they lost to the bottom-of-the-table RR by 15 runs. KXIP could not form any batting partnership that could tick long enough. Rahul opened the match and stayed rooted to his cause till the very end while his partners kept changing – none of whom were able to score more than 11 runs. KL Rahul and Andrew Tye have rewarded the Orange and Purple Caps respectively for their performances.

RR has made a comeback with their decision of placing Jos Buttler as an opener, because of whom they achieved their best powerplay score this season with 63 runs. He had proved himself time and again with the fifties in three successive innings including last night’s match. Even Sanju Samson could not steal the spotlight from Buttler as he was dismissed with only 21 runs in his pocket. Buttler’s 82 definitely paved RR’s way to victory as those extra twenty runs proved to be a nuisance for KXIP.

RR’s bowling game was also on point as they took down KXIP like dominoes except for KL Rahul, whose standalone effort, however, proved to not be enough.

RR will look to continue their form against CSK on Friday at Jaipur while KXIP will look to get back on their saddle in their match against KKR on Saturday at their home base.
