Dhoni made the headlines with his one-man performance against Kings XI Punjab on Sunday. He scored 79 – not out off 44 balls, but in vain as Chennai Super Kings lost by four runs.

KL Rahul’s take on KXIP’s struggle against Dhoni was that they took advantage of his back injury in the last over. “The plan was to bowl wide yorkers at him because he was struggling with his back…but good back or a bad back, you pitch it in his arc and he is still going to hit it miles. It was good learning for our bowling attack, but still, the early stage in this IPL” KL Rahul said at a post-match press conference.

KL Rahul had scored 37 off 22 balls in the same match. CSK’s coach Stephen Fleming appreciated CSK’s fielding in the game, restricting Punjab’s score to be under 200. Gayle’s performance led them to believe that they may have even crossed the 220-mark. “So the character for the second half of that bowling innings was very good as we were able to get some wickets, create some pressure.so, I am really impressed and proud of the effort” he said.

KXIP play their next home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 19th at 20:00 EST. CSK will play in Maharashtra Cricket Association’s International Stadium, Pune against Rajasthan Royals on April 20th at 20:00 EST.
