The Team of the Season for the Ligue 1 has been announced on 25th May this year by EA Sports. This team includes the best players of the season who have managed impress consistently. PSG dominate the line-up with 4 players while Marseille and Lyon have 2 players each. Here are the starting eleven of the best players in the Ligue 1 2017-18 season.

Goalkeeper: Benjamin Lecomte (Montpellier HSC)

Montpellier finished in the 10th spot in the league but only conceded 33 goals, 2nd to only champions PSG. This is thanks to the brilliant performances of Lecomte, who played every minute of every game for the club, keeping 14 clean sheets (2nd highest) in the process.

Centre-back: Kamil Glik (AS Monaco)

Glik made 36 appearances for Monaco this season scoring 3 goals and assisting 2. He held impressive stats like 1,392 passes, 23 tackles, 54 interceptions and 275 clearances with 7.6 clearances/match, the highest in the league this season.

Centre-back: Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)

Marquinhos seems to get better with every season, he helped PSG to an easy title-winning campaign and also completed 1,561 passes, 14 tackles, 14 interceptions and 109 clearances, all in just 26 matches. The 24-year old looks to be a starter in the Brazilian World Cup side.

Centre-back: Presnel Kimpembe (Paris Saint-Germain)

Arguably more impressive than his defensive partner this season, Kimpembe played in 28 matches and made 1,771 passes, 28 tackles, 24 interceptions and 74 clearances.  The 22-year old also earned a place in the France World Cup squad due to his brilliant performances for PSG.

Centre Defensive Midfield: Luiz Gustavo (Olympique de Marseille)

Luis Gustavo scored 5 goals and assisted 2 in his 34 matches for Marseille. The 30-year old defensive midfielder completed 1,745 passes, 21 shots on target, 38 dribbles, 54 tackles, 55 clearances and 50 interceptions, proving himself to be a valuable member of the team.

Right Midfield: Florian Thauvin (Olympique de Marseille)

The 25-year old forward rightfully earned a spot in the France World Cup squad, Thauvin was easily one of the best players in Ligue 1 this season with 22 goals and 11 assists. Even when he wasn’t scoring goals, the Frenchman was impressive as he managed 1,254 passes, 52 shots on target and 119 dribbles.

Left Midfield: Memphis Depay (Olympique Lyonnais)

With 19 goals and 13 assists, Depay managed to get his career back on track after his poor season in the Premier League with Manchester United. The 24-year old Dutchman finished the season as the top scorer as well as assist leader for his team and led them to the third place in the league.

Centre Attacking Midfield: Nabil Fekir (Olympique Lyonnais)

Fekir had his most prolific season yet with 18 goals and 7 assists in his 30 matches in Ligue 1. His brilliant form helped him get selected in the France World Cup squad, which is full of talented attackers. The 24-year old midfielder is now a major target for Liverpool FC.

Forward: Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)

In 20 matches, Neymar scored 19 goals(3rd highest) and provided 13 assists(highest), 2.1 shots on target/match(highest), 7.1 dribbles/match (highest) and was awarded the Ligue 1’s Best Player award. Who knows what he could have done had he not been injured for the latter half of the season. Now recovering from injury, the Brazillian will be looking to take his country all the way in the coming World Cup.

Forward: Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)

The top scorer of Ligue 1 with 28 goals, Edinson Cavani was his usual self. He also managed the league highest 92 minutes/goal ratio. The 31-year old striker shows no signs of slowing down as he prepares for another prolific season at Paris.

Forward: Karl Toko-Ekambi (Angers SCO)

Karl Toko-Ekambi, the least popular name on this team finished the season as Angers’ top scorer with 17 goals and also provided 5 assists. The Cameroon International became an instant hero for the club as Angers just managed to stay out of the relegation zone this season but he might be on his way to Villarreal in a few days.
