Sassuolo has completed the signing of Manuel Locatelli from AC Milan on loan with an obligation to make the move a permanent one.

Locatelli will join Sassuolo on loan for a fee of €2 million with an obligation to buy for €12 million (with bonuses). There is no buy-back clause in the contract as the choice of the player.

AC Milan Sporting Director, Leonardo Araujo said: “We have never thought about selling him, but the intention of the player is another thing.”

The two Serie A clubs announced the deal through their clubs’ official websites on Monday.

AC Milan’s official website: “AC Milan announces the agreement for the player Manuel Locatelli to join US Sassuolo Calcio on a loan deal with an obligation to buy. AC Milan wishes Manuel the best of luck in his future sporting career, thanking him for his professionalism and commitment to the Club.”

The Sassuolo official website: “LOCATELLI Manuel (’98, midfielder): acquired as a loan with a redemption obligation from AC Milan. The player will be presented to the press on Thursday 16th August at 3.30 pm at the Seminar Room of the Mapei office in Via Valle d’Aosta, 46 in Sassuolo.”

Locatelli started his career with Atalanta and later moved to AC Milan at the age of 11. With them, the youngster advanced through every youth category in the club before finally making his Serie A debut for Milan’s senior team in 2015/2016 season. The next year he made 25 appearances. Last season he appeared in 21 league matches, most of them as a substitute and represented Mian in 7 matches in the Europa League. 

The midfielder made a total of 63 appearances in his Milan career, registering 2 goals and an assist. The Italy u-21 midfielder now joins fellow Serie A side Sassuolo in search of regular football.

Sassuolo face Inter Milan in their first Serie A fixture of the season on Monday, 20th August.
