Sources from Sky say that Everton will complete the signing of French international Lucas Digne from Barcelona within the next few days. The left-back has traveled with Barcelona for their pre-season tour that is taking place in the US but was an unused substitute in their last game against Tottenham that Barcelona won on penalties. Sources say that a deal is finalized and Barcelona have confirmed that he will be traveling to Spain to finalize the deal. They tweeted, “Lucas Digne travels today [Sunday] to Barcelona with the club’s permission to finalize his departure from the club.”

Lucas Digne took to social media to thank the Catalan club for his time in Spain. He wrote on Instagram: “I want to say thank you very much to all. First to the club that has given me everything since I arrived. ” Thanks to all the physios, the staff with whom I have worked, the physical trainers, the security people, all that make the club a family.” Digne has made 46 appearances since joining Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain in July 2016 but he fell out of favor under coach Ernesto Valverde last season and missed out on a place in France’s World Cup squad.

Digne is set to become Marcos Silva’s newest high profile signing after he managed to acquire the services of Richarlison from his former club Watford for a reported fee of around 40 million. Digne will strengthen the Everton defence and will provide them with the attacking threat that wing backs provide. Something that Baines has been doing for them since a very long time now and his absence from the first team showed a lack of this last season. With the signing of Digne, Marcos Silva has assembled a more than handy squad for Everton as they will try and finish in the top 10 in the upcoming season.
