Last night at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians gained its first well-needed win of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore. This was an integral victory for Mumbai Indians who are now back in the race.
RCB won the toss and decided to field. MI had a rocky start with Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan, clean-bowled one after the other. The game really started only after Captain Rohit Sharma entered. Partnered with opener Evin Lewis, they hit sixes and fours left, right and center, laying the foundation to push the score to 200. Lewis scored 65 off 42 balls with six sixes and five fours and Rohit Sharma played a knock of 94 off 52 balls consisting of ten fours and five sixes. After their wickets, MI managed to form a total of 213/6.
Corey Anderson took the two most integral wickets of the evening – Rohit Sharma and Evin Lewis. Umesh Yadav started the game in RCB’s favor with the first two quick wickets and slow run rate.
RCB had to chase a score of 214. They started off well with 40 runs in 4 overs. Captain Kohli’s performance was brilliant, as he opened and stayed till the end – scoring 92 runs in 62 balls. However, he was not supported by any other batsmen, including AB de Villiers, who was out within two balls. He remained constant as his partners changed every few overs, losing RCB 8 wickets. Finally, they could only manage 167 runs off 20 overs and lost to MI by 46 runs.
Krunal Pandya took three consecutive wickets and helped push RCB down to its knees.
