IPL Match 34, Post-Match Analysis: Mumbai Indians making their comeback!1 min read

KXIP VS MI

IPL 2018 | Match 34 | KXIP vs MI: The Mumbai Indians have scored a necessary win as they defeated Kings XI Punjab – a near impossible feat. Their situation this season has changed overnight from the bottom all the way to the fifth position with six points.

MI won the toss and chose to field. The much-awaited Gayle-Rahul storm opened the innings for KXIP which lasted for seven overs till Rahul’s wicket. Their partnership brought 54 runs. Chris Gayle made his fifty and left the field soon after. Yuvraj Singh and Karun Nair were not able to coordinate well leading to Yuvraj’s dismissal as well. Yuvraj is still not back in form. After Gayle, no was able to stick on the field. Marcus Stoinis came alive in the last over to score a variety of boundaries and sixes and ended the game at 174 for six. KXIP had the ability to do way better than this.

MI’s bowling abilities had definitely improved especially with a high-scoring field like Holkar. They were able to restrict their opponents and didn’t allow the Gayle-Rahul storm cause major damage.

Evin Lewis and Suryakumar Yadav opened as expected. Lewis was unable to provide support to Yadav and left early. Yadav had a good spell and scored a big fifty until his dismissal by Stoinis. Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan each contributed twenty runs each and left the field. Rohit Sharma and Krunal Pandya then took the team to victory.

KXIP seemed to perform better bowling than batting last night, however, they could not prevent the MI from winning. Mujeeb ur Rahman and Ravichandran Ashwin tried to restrict them but the low chasing score gave the luxury for a few dud overs without causing any harm.

This was a much-needed win for the Mumbai Indians and they would want nothing more than to continue this streak. KXIP remains in the fourth position so no major harm was done.

Both teams don’t have much time to recover as they play tomorrow. MI will be clashing with the Kolkata Knight Riders, another team on top while KXIP will be playing against the bottom-of-the-table Rajasthan Royals.
